What is the HSYC?

The Harpenden Society Youth Collective is a subsection of the Harpenden Society aimed at allowing young people to play a part in representing and campaigning for Harpenden. It consists of a group of students in year 12 who wish to contribute and speak on behalf of young people in ensuring Harpenden Town remains and grows as the best possible home for all its residents.

Who does it involve?

The Harpenden Society Youth Collective is made up of a team of ambitious Year 12 students from the local area. We aim to serve as a voice for the young people of Harpenden to help improve the town for the younger residents.

The team consists of Eduardo, Daniel, Joelah, Cheryl, Lucy, Carla, Aurélie and Charlie. We hope to use our unique perspective to give young people more opportunities for growth and entertainment in the local area.

What do you want to achieve and why?

Our aim is to tackle a key challenge faced by young people in Harpenden through a campaign or public event.

“Personally, I was drawn to this exciting opportunity as I felt there is often an incorrect stereotype that young people are disinterested in their local area. Therefore, I wanted to play my part in contributing to my hometown as a young person.

I am also very eager to grow my teamwork and communication skills and this felt like the perfect opportunity to develop these qualities whilst contributing to the development and improvement of our community.” (Aurélie Beloe)

“I thought the HSYC was a great chance to make a positive difference to the local community while improving my interpersonal skills and leadership. I have ideas that I am keen to share and problems that I want to raise and solve. I’m excited to see what the HSYC can achieve under the guidance of Katharine and Martyn, and how we can improve life in Harpenden for other children and teenagers.” (Charlie Ross Arévalo)
