Harpenden Society Awards for developments completed in 2016

The ‘2016 Harpenden Society Plaque' was awarded to Stonehurst Court, the apartment block at Southdown, immediately adjacent to the Harpenden Trust Centre, on the site of the former (long derelict) Rose & Crown pub.  Martin Brown,  sales manager of Shanly Homes, the developer,  received the Award from Penny Ayres, chairman of the Awards Committee at the Society's AGM in April 2017.  She said the new building had outstanding and imaginative architectural merit, with its corner ‘turret' feature and differing roof levels, while helping to provide much-needed compact apartment housing.
Letters of Commendation were awarded to:

Harpenden Town Council for its outstanding Christmas Lights decorating the main shopping areas of the town, which by common consent, created a more striking display than in any previous year.
