The Harpenden Society has been helping to maintain the Town's unique visual image for more than 40 years by recognising building, design & site developments of a high architectural standard that blend within the town much of which is a conservation area.
A small committee of society members chaired by Ron Taylor assesses the nominations from Society members in the early Spring prior to the official announcements at the AGM in April.

Prestigious Harpenden Society Plaque presented for the development of Station House in Station Approach, Harpenden
Built on what would be termed a ‘brownfield site’ adjacent to the Station the apartments are close to all transport connections with shopping, hospitality and entertainment options all within walking distance. So no loss of green belt land and less traffic congestion within the town centre.
A remarkable achievement by the developer Sarb Sahota, ably supported by Hamptons Estate Agents, Harpenden. The stylish and contemporary design consists of 24 luxury 1 and 2 bedroom apartments.
The Award was presented on the 5th September by Harpenden Society Chair, Jeff Phillips to developer Sarb Sahota, pictured with his wife Kulie Sahota. Representing Hamptons were Richard Goss (Associate Director) and Julian David.

Harpenden’s Silver Palate group extended their Delicatessen with a creatively designed new store last year. Offering a huge range of Deli products with fresh breads, cheeses vegetables and an extensive selection of Deli products not available anywhere else in Harpenden. PLUS a trendy coffee bar.
All uniquely designed. This statement of intent from a local business was worthy of a Harpenden Society Certificate of Merit.

Harpenden’s only ICE CREAM parlour - DARLISH was awarded a Harpenden Society Certificate of Merit thanks to their creative introduction of a large children’s play area upstairs. A demonstration of their support for the Harpenden High Street. Presented by Awards Secretary Ron Taylor to Aurelia Chilvers on August 23. Located in Leyton Road they have established a reputation for top quality ice creams of all sizes and flavours PLUS a variety of drinks including coffee.

The architectural design of the house for Mr and Mrs Tucker at no 11 Moreton End Lane, Harpenden. In the opinion of the Society it is an outstanding example of the way the widely-admired appearance of houses which for many decades have characterised ‘The Avenues’ area of the town has been harmoniously combined with 21st Century energy-efficient forms of construction.

Harpenden Town Council
On Tuesday 8th October 20204 Harpenden Town Council were presented with the ‘Harpenden Society Certificate of Merit’ for Rothamsted Park's Artificial Grass Pitch development.
Ron Taylor, the Society Awards secretary presented the A3 framed certificate to the Town Council and said the pitch ‘provided Harpenden with an impressive new development that will benefit residents for years to come’.
